| Set in the glamorous, seductive Hollywood of the 40’s, this clever musical chronicles the misadventures of a young novelist attempting a film adaptation of one of his novels. Concurrent stories play as the movie scenes are acted in glorious film noir-style black and white, while the “live” scenes appear in full color. With music scored in the genre, audiences are treated to a dramatic version of a 1940’s private eye film. It is a tale of decadence and homicide with a liberal sprinkling of humor and appearances by femmes fatales. 1990 recipient of six Tony Awards®, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score.
