Wheaton Drama Inc. invites you to audition for Matilda the Musical!
Matilda the Musical is the delightful, high-energy tale of a very young girl with a very sharp mind, who uses her vivid imagination, cleverness and magical powers to triumph over some extremely difficult adults and change her destiny. Adapted from the beloved Roald Dahl novel, this is an inspirational, uplifting show for youngsters of all ages, filled with laughs, heart and an enchanting score featuring “My House”, “When I Grow Up”, “Naughty” and “Revolting Children.”

Key Dates
- Cast Read Through: Sunday September 29th at 6pm at the theatre
- Rehearsals: Sunday afternoons, Monday–Thursday Evenings
- Tech Week: November 17th–21st, 2024
- Show Run: November 22nd through December 15th, with performances Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm, and Sundays at 2:00pm. There will be NO performance on Thursday November 28th, Thanksgiving Day
Audition Requirements:
Sing 32 bars (or one verse and chorus, about 1-2 minutes maximum) of a musical theatre song of your choice that best showcases your voice. No a cappella auditions or karaoke tracks will be allowed. Please bring clearly printed sheet music to your audition. An accompanist will be provided.
Be prepared to fill out a conflict sheet at auditions (be as honest and specific as possible about conflicts throughout the rehearsal period).
No dance will be done at the initial auditions. There may be cold readings from the script.
Callback Requirements:
- Complete a dance audition, taught by the director/choreographer. Please note that the dance audition will only be for those called back.
- You may be asked to read provided selections from the script.
- You may be asked to sing provided selections from the score.
Adult performers and children aged 10 and up are welcome to audition. Unless strictly and specifically mandated from the playwright, all roles are open and available to anyone regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, or body type. The role of Matilda will be double cast.
